The gaping chasm in the living conditions between those who possess and those who do not in the country of free and equal citizens is not getting narrower, it is widening. The changes in social policy move the problems of the unemployed temporarily into public consciousness. The media now deal with individual destinies (but will return to normal as soon as we get used to them and no longer get upset about them).
The Americanisation of local conditions proceeds.
The performance project, ‘besitznichtbesitz’, involving welfare recipients, the homeless and the affluent of Frankfurt, places people as specialists of their lives, wisdom and anger at the centre of the artistic work, and does not consider the process of engagement with the theme and these destinies as completed once the theatre performance is over and the video installation by Raman Zaya at Frankfurt’s Hauptwache has been dismantled.
On the contrary: nothing has been resolved. The daily struggle for a dignified existence continues for the poor while, for the rich, the consciousness of their privileged position remains intact.
For how much longer?
The internet pages of besitznichtbesitz will remain online to keep the discourse alive, especially in the forum and the job market. Until now, the non-art public has commented only hesitantly in the forum.
Why?
When the engaged good people, who like to appreciate what concerns art, are calmly accepting …. what then?
